Lorraine is an author, journalist, essayist, editor, and leader of writing workshops and weekend retreats.

Her first book, Life Touches Life: A Mother’s Story of Stillbirth and Healing (NewSage Press) has circulated throughout the United States as well as in the Middle East, Australia, Europe, China, Canada, and Mexico. Her second book, Self and Soul: On Creating a Meaningful Life (Cape House Books), is a spiritual memoir.

Shorter works have appeared in anthologies, including Steeped in the World of Tea, and various journals and webzines such as Cairn, Journeys, Ducts, and Recovering the Self: A Journal of Hope and Healing.

A veteran journalist, Lorraine has written feature articles and series that have won seventeen national, state, and regional awards and appeared in daily newspapers across the United States. She has been an editor/reporter since 1982, currently for New Jersey Press Media, a Gannett newspaper group.

For years Lorraine has been known as an encouraging and effective writing coach and editor for first-time and experienced authors. She has edited dozens of book manuscripts and hundreds of articles and written lots of forewords and endorsements for books. In her writing workshops and retreats, participants learn to find their strongest writing voice, structure their stories in compelling ways, and see their lives from surprising and useful new angles. She brings that experience and sensibility as well as editing savvy to Cape House authors.

Lorraine belongs to the Story Circle Network, Association of Writers and Writing Programs, Association of Ghostwriters, and Investigative Reporters and Editors.

She lives in New Jersey with her husband, Bill. The couple’s daughter, Victoria Helen Ash, was stillborn in 1999. Lorraine works one-on-one with bereaved mothers of infants through several organizations.

She is a graduate of Drew University and holds a master’s degree in Public Communications from Fordham University.
